Project

To extend a new A rated home in Kildare. The clients needed an extra TV/playroom onto the kitchen area. This would create a much needed family living room off the kitchen where the clients felt they needed more space. The clients wanted to maximise light while at the same time they wanted plenty of wall space and they wanted a contemporary design that would aesthetically blend in with their home.

Challenge

To create a Sunroom extension with extra wall space for storing toys and a TV that would at the same time keep the light and brightness in the home and to create a contemporary design that would look aesthetically pleasing on the home

Design Solution

We designed a Gable Front Sunroom which maximises the light and we installed 4 x roof windows for additional light. The clients opted for anthracite grey outside and white inside this contrasts beautifully with the cream windows in their home. A short wall was added on one side for shelving and another long wall on the other side with a long window in the wall for extra light. We recommended to use 100mm insulated plasterboard on all the external walls,150mm of spray foam insulation in the ceiling and 100mm insulation in the floor for a cosy room in the winter months

Build

Because of the precision heating system in an A rated house it was decided to install electric heating as the perfect independent heating system for the new sunroom.

The manhole and  radon gas vent were removed and we also removed the doors from the house to create an open plan room off the kitchen.

We discussed with the client what type of flooring they would install onto the new floor and they decided on laminate flooring, with this information we ensured that the new concrete floor was laid at the perfect level so when the clients laid their floor the new floor would be at the same level as the existing house floor.

Results

The sunroom took 4 weeks to complete. The build was constructed on time and within budget.

The clients were delighted with the completed sunroom, they were happy that we met all their initial requirements and with the speed of the build. They were extremely impressed with the brightness of the sunroom because they got more than adequate wall space and that we left their home perfectly clean and tidy.
